June Meeting
Date: Monday, June19, 2017
Time: 4:00-5:30 pm (new time)
Where: The Clubhouse at the Azure Apartment Complex
7 Indigo Drive – Petaluma, CA

After stimulating discussion at our May meeting, and a welcome to a
new member, the June meeting will continue our discussion and include
planning for future events. One idea that is being considered is to host
periodic meetings of our group at individual members’ houses to get
acquainted with how we live, structural changes we have made, and the
equipment we use. Besides, we just enjoy being together!

Two developments at the national level deserve special attention:
Legislation has been introduced in Congress to scale back protections
for people with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
For more information see https://dredf.org/2017/04/20/ada-danger-californias-role-critical/

The second development is the proposed federal budget which
contains dramatic reductions in services provided individuals with
disabilities under Medicaid (called MediCal in California) and dismantles
the Affordable Care Act. The Arc’s summary of the proposal relates to
all disability groups. http://www.thearc.org/file/public-policydocument/Major-provisions-of-the-American-Health-Care-Act.pdf
